Hohenbuehelia mastrucata |
An oddly colored collection, perhaps due to its odd habitat: red-dyed garden mulch. Hohenbuehelia mastrucata is usually some tone of grey. Caps are 2-7 cm wide. Note cross section showing the unique gelatinous layer that runs through the upper cap of this mushroom. |
Lanceolate (tapered to a point), thick walled pleurocystidia amongst the spore producing cells of Hohenbuehelia mastrucata. Pleurocystidia up to 100 x 20 microns and smaller. |
Clamp connections present. |
Spores are elliptical and smooth, measuring 7-9 x 4-5.5 microns |
These specimens were growing from a rotting hardwood log at Shades State Park in August. |
